2014: A Year in Review

December 30th, 2014

Whoa, 2014 is almost over! Time to eat loads of tasty food, have some drinks, see family and friends and, of course, reflect on the past year and look at what’s in store for us in 2015.

So big spoiler right of the bat, we’ll be writing about the things happening at Awkward. We decided it was time to share a bit more about what we do, how we create. Not just for you, dear reader, but also for ourselves. And anyway, we’ve all harboured secret dreams of becoming super famous industry blog writers.

2014 the year of growth

This year has been the best year in Awkward history. We brought four talented new hires onboard: Tiemen, Michiel, John and Barbara. Quite a substantial growth for a small company. With a total of ten people we were ready to take on any challenge that was thrown our way.

In order for Awkward to move forward we had to chuck Shipment, one of our initial products. Working on it was an amazing journey, and we learned a lot by launching our own bootstrapped product. Unfortunately, we couldn’t give it the attention it deserved and decided to focus on other opportunities instead.

Speaking of other opportunities, we’ve been able to work with some pretty awesome companies this past year. We’re proud of Beam for reddit, Message Bus, Mollie, Addapp, Socialist and Pause Magazine, which we launched this year. Not to mention a hand full of neat side projects. Sorry, we can’t tell you about those — yet.

2015 ahoy!

In 2015 we’ll shift our focus to working on fewer, but way bigger projects. And, of course, be more open to you, the reader, designer, developer, SEO guru or, if you’re none of the above, we’re happy that we’ve caught your interest and that you made it this far into the article.

You’ll also see us popping up more often at various places; conferences and meet-ups, awkwardly standing in a corner somewhere. So, if you spot one of us, don’t hesitate to walk on over and start up a conversation. The beer’s on us.

Here’s to a great 2015, cheers!
